Udemy Stagnant? - New Courses? - Poor Call-to-Action Design

Hi, I wanted to talk about a few more things about Udemy. I haven't posted a video dedicated specifically to Udemy in a while, so right now I went to buy a course and there are a few things I would like to tell you about. Well, again, this video is purely my opinion. I never tire of saying it, so you are free to agree with me or simply disagree with me. Have a completely different opinion. Again, I am simply giving my opinion because I want to.

Udemy Stagnant, No New Courses

Here you are also seeing that we are in the Black Friday season, which is when prices are reduced to 9.99, which is usually the lowest price we have on Udem and it is rarely at this price, usually they are at 11 or 12 I think, but right now it is at the minimum price that the platform allows, so here the first thing I want you to see is that there are practically no new courses, almost all the courses shown are old since they do not have the “new” brand.

You would think that new courses would be launched during times of high sales.

Precisely because it is a time of many sales, the part of Black Friday, December and New Year, in theory, people who want to start with this platform could take advantage of this opportunity to basically have more sales, but notice that this is the only new course that at least appears here.

In the section of video game creation, only one with Unity 6, the 7th is going to be released at the date these words were written, another with Unreal, we have been with the 5 for a while and I think it is a bit the same, that is to say, for some reason in my case it is because it is stagnant and right now I am going to continue investigating a little about this, people are not releasing much material here, that is to say, they are not releasing many new courses or courses and therefore the platform is stagnant and to give a little more emphasis on this.

Udemy is promoting a 2019 legacy course in the mobile courses section…

Look at this page, I consider Fernando Herrera, if my opinion is worth anything, an excellent instructor. I have several of his courses, and I'll say it so clearly, the Flutter part above all. I am more into Backend development. I also like the mobile development part. In this case, I used to work with Xcode but I never gave it much thought. I didn't really like it, although one day I will continue with that with Android Studio. I also worked there for a long time, although it was quite tedious, and I will talk about this in another video. But I haven't developed in Android Studio natively for a while, and right now I'm developing with Flutter, which I find much more pleasant. Therefore, I have several of his courses on Flutter, among others.

But especially about Flutter, notice that the course that appears is exactly as it is indicated here, it is the word Legacy, I acquired this as you can see it was in 2019 when I bought it, notice that we are at the end of 2024 and Udemy for some reason continues to promote a 2019 course that is even indicating that it is Legacy because it was released and a new version is down here.

Udemy only considers the number of ratings above all else

I suppose that the main factor here that is taking d is the rating But that is to say this one has 177,000 ratings And this one has 3,000 therefore well almost 4000 therefore it makes perfect sense that this one appears first but it is simply a comparison Imagine.

If YouTube was always recommending the videos with the most views or with the most thumbs up it was recommending videos from 5 or 10 years ago because those would be the ones that have been on the platform the longest and therefore the ones that are viewed the most, it is assumed that there should be another type of factor there to place which courses are on top and which courses are on the bottom for you as a consumer it does not make sense that a course is recommended that is indicating that it is Legacy I think that there is a lack of optimization, to put it little by little, of that algorithm that it has here to promote the courses another point that I also consider important and this obviously you have to tie it to the part of why people did not release new courses here before continuing look at what appears

Udemy does not seek to promote instructors other than the already known big names.

Here on the list Fernando Herrera here we also have another another another another, that is to say, he is very committed to one person, Fernando Herrera is one, I think he is the person who has the most students here on the platform, if we go to his profile here he has more than 600,000 students and outside of that he also has a good number of people who follow him, so for a person who wants to launch a new course I think it is quite complicated to compete with these types of situations since in the end Udemy has been promoting courses since the beginning of the centuries and on the other hand, Even if you have a large community where the ratings as you can see here are the crucial part, it is very difficult to compete with all of this and I think that this is also due to or the reason why Udemy is stagnant, so this was a little what I wanted to comment here about this since again I wanted to take advantage of the Black Friday offers to see if there was new content, which there apparently is not.

Horrible call to action to buy a course

Another important point for me I'm doing it again right now because just yesterday I bought a course and from here I started to see Well let's see what I have here or what's new and I saw that everything It is always more or less the same promoting the same courses that again are many are old So the course that by the way I bought would be this one that we have here that was recommended to me and I'm looking at it I'm also here developing a little with video games I've been working with Blender for a long time before I was also working with Unity although with what happened with Unity I changed a bit real and well I wanted this as a reference for some things that I'm doing So but precisely yesterday I went to buy a course I'm going to grab any for example if it lets me by the way This is the other thing I don't want to select this one and it doesn't let me I mean it has some crazy things in the interface look at the purchase window:

Comprar curso

I think this is extremely loaded and unnecessary things first staff and teams This is for the
Udemy for business which is training for companies I think Udemy has more than enough material to know if a person is a company or personal therefore this option for people should be a little more hidden not so much because this is what you are adding a lot of noise to the interface here a lot of information this would be the call to action that is to say this is the button that they are recommending to acquire this course which in this case I understand I don't since this is also new to me again I have not bought anything here on the platform for a long time but I understand that it is a kind of udem for business which is a kind of Netflix but in this case based on courses that is to say you pay a subscription and you have access to a certain amount of courses this would be more or less the same I understand that well here it is 2000 here it says that it is 27,000 well with old courses Imagine you but I understand that more or less the same I dare to say that the majority of people There is only one person who wants to buy a course, so there should be a direct option here that says buy in this case.

When I was buying yesterday, it literally took me about 5 minutes, I was quite distracted but I was looking for the purchase option, since the one that appears here is to add to cart, but there should also be a direct purchase option.

If the courses last 30 or 40 hours, that's more than enough to keep you entertained for a whole month, so I don't think paying rent will do so well for them, and most people want to be, so to speak, owners of their course for life, again, so to speak, so to speak, then again, personal opinion, I never tire of saying, what they do now, simply as a consumer, what I see and evaluating all this a little, this option should be lower down at least, and it shouldn't be highlighted here either, since this option should be highlighted, and that's why I didn't see it, because I was dying with this damn button here that is telling me to click on it, which I obviously didn't want to click on, because I wanted to go buy it, even though this could be a little deceptive, because most people are used to buying the resource and not being with this damn rent, and above all, this one, which is a good development course, for the majority, is 40, 50, 30 hours, with that you spend the whole month minimum, then, well, one, again, this option should be more marked, as it is here. Emi's interface and second for me this should be on top and the other thing is that it is extremely loaded, that is to say here coupon coupon coupon here gift share these are things that they wanted to be more hidden here a favorite for example put three points and the rest of the options if the coupon applied appears here How are you going to apply another coupon So first you delete it and then you apply it, that is, it has many unnecessary elements here in the interface and in the end the only thing you want is to buy it and most people will also buy it from some offer that is on the platform since if it is for the coupon usually you already share the link with the coupon it is already automatically applied and if not it is like Udemy that according to the discount that it is making it also applies the coupon So this could be a little more hidden by means of three points and so on and this again moved up here for God's sake this video should also be somewhere else because it is already too loaded this is supposed to be the palette to call to action That is to say to be ready and buy not to be watching an introduction the introduction you do it you see it is right here and you click on it and here you can see it in the history so this for me is chaos in my personal opinion in my humble personal opinion I am also more of a bque I the client part is always something that I am working on a little but even so I think that well This is worth analyzing this a little and the other and continuing a little with the part of the interface that seems quite chaotic to me It is that look at what appears here here it appears add good to buy several here look Show all reviews and almost just below that is to say a little further down it appears notify individual use and it is maintaining the same tune that is to say a secondary button and it is very close this for example should be in a red color the options that are dangerous or that carry some risk that in this case is to report a content always have to be marked in red or for example when you are going to delete and so on that is something that we know when we are creating the typical crud and this should be in red to differentiate it so much from this since
the interface is practically the same this has a a little more padding but the rest is very similar and should also be different from this one to show more reviews and above all a little further away and this has it look look at the plados that this button has is smaller than the one to report misuse that they have throughout

Conclusions

I definitely don't know what Udemy is doing with its life, there are many things that I think can be considered out of the ordinary on this platform, so nothing, I just wanted to leave this opinion for you, as I told you, I was buying a course, it had been a long time since I bought any course here and that was kind of the impression I had, so without further ado, I'll see you in another video.
